Synopsis
Alin Druthers is lonely. He collects back issues of “Reader’s Digest”, stocks his closet full of unused light bulbs, and hasn’t had a steak dinner in ten years. Charley is a broken hearted Polish immigrant turned call-girl. She yearns for her ex-boyfriend, avoids the daylight in her windowless basement apartment, and chain smokes the night away. Together they form an unlikely bond built on the nostalgia of the past with the desire to enjoy the present. Happy Birthday Rita is a wryly comedic, melancholic story that follows a pair of unlikely friends on their path to moving forward.
